Prodigal Law Native Oregon

Prodigal Law was founded on the belief that every person deserves a dedicated defense attorney who sees beyond the criminal charges to the human being beneath. We specialize in navigating the complexities of the Oregon criminal justice system with integrity and relentless skill.

Kevin M. Anderson, a Washington County, Oregon native, established Prodigal Law after a career that spanned from high-stakes national transportation law to rural Oregon sustainable agriculture. This unique path instilled a profound work ethic and a deep understanding of the diverse challenges Oregonians face. Today, he applies that same grit and resilience to the courtroom, ensuring his clients are treated with the dignity and respect they deserve while vigorously defending their rights.

Our Core Values

INTEGRITY

The foundation of our practice is absolute honesty. We pursue justice with unwavering ethical standards, ensuring every decision is rooted in truth.

COMPASSION

We respect the intrinsic dignity of every person. Behind every case is a human being who deserves compassion, support, and a calm harbor in the legal storm.

RESTORATION

Guided by faith, we look toward a future beyond the courtroom. We work toward restoration, believing in grace and the power of second chances.

DEFENDING HOPE

At Prodigal Law, we believe that every individual is created with inherent dignity and deserves to be treated with profound respect, regardless of the charges they face. Our faith informs a holistic view of justice—one that seeks not only legal resolution but restoration and true peace for our clients and the community.

This perspective guides every decision we make. We approach each case with the understanding that mistakes do not define a person’s future. Pursuing justice means advocating fiercely for the truth while maintaining a spirit of compassion, ensuring that our clients feel heard, valued, and supported through some of life’s most difficult moments.

Our commitment to integrity and excellence is a direct reflection of our values. We strive to be a beacon of hope in the criminal justice system, offering a steady hand and a calm presence. While our approach is rooted in faith, we serve clients from all walks of life with the same unwavering dedication to their rights and their humanity.

Kevin M. Anderson
criminal defense attorney

Kevin is a Portland, Oregon native and the founder of Prodigal Law.

After graduating from Jesuit High School, Kevin headed south to escape the Oregon rain, attending Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas—where he met his wife of more than twenty years. He earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Denver Sturm College of Law in 2008, serving on the Executive Board and as Technical Editor of the Transportation Law Journal.

Following law school, Kevin practiced transportation law for twelve years at Anderson and Yamada, P.C. in Portland. During that time, he developed a national reputation as a leading cargo claims litigator, representing trucking companies and freight brokers in numerous complex Carmack Amendment matters.

During this time, Kevin never lost his passion for criminal defense—an area he first fell in love with during law school while interning for two years as a certified law student with the Colorado State Public Defender’s Office. During the pandemic, he transitioned back to criminal law while also launching a silvo-pastured pig ranch with his family.

An attentive listener and dedicated advocate, he partners closely with each client to develop thoughtful strategies that position them for long-term success. Kevin is equally comfortable in the courtroom as he is in the pig paddock—always ready to do the hard work with a smile on his face.

Kevin and his wife homeschool their four children, and during the school year he teaches a lively Challenge B (8th grade) class in their Classical Conversations homeschool co-op. The family lives on their 75-acre silvo-pastured pig ranch in the Coast Range of western Washington County, Oregon. Kevin is also a Colson Fellow.
